The Colours of Doi Tung Festival, hosted by the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage, is set to take place from December 4, 2024, to January 26, 2025, at the Doi Tung Development Project in Chiang Rai.

Running on weekends and public holidays from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the festival will offer a unique blend of cultural experiences, art, and local cuisine in one of Thailand’s most scenic mountain locations.

This year’s festival, themed “WINTER WONDERDOI: Embrace Joy and Wonder in the Enchanting Hills – Doi Tung x NEW YEAR,” features a special collaboration with rising pop artist NEWYEAR Papakorn Srikalayakorn. Srikalayakorn has created a series of charming artworks inspired by the rare wildlife of Doi Tung, including the leopard cat, slow loris, and barbet. These playful, cartoon-like characters are featured throughout the festival’s flower gardens, providing visitors with ample opportunities for photos while showcasing the area’s rich biodiversity.

The event also includes a vibrant tribal marketplace, where visitors can shop for local handicrafts and sample traditional dishes like “grilled chicken breast with sabiey sauce” and “ito rice with grilled black pork and spicy dip”. The Doi Tung Café offers an immersive experience, where guests can craft their own drip coffee amidst the lush gardens.

In addition to the culinary and artistic offerings, the festival presents live indie music and traditional tribal performances, as well as hands-on workshops. Visitors can take home unique souvenirs, from Doi Tung’s signature products to tribal arts and crafts.

Colours of Doi Tung
Where nature, culture, and sustainability meet—Doi Tung is the perfect winter escape.

Nestled in the mountains of northern Thailand, the Doi Tung Development Project has become a model of sustainable tourism and conservation. Established in 1988 under the vision of the late Princess Mother, the initiative transformed a deforested region into a thriving community known for its environmental restoration and cultural preservation.

Visitors can explore the Mae Fah Luang Garden, a vibrant botanical showcase, and the Doi Tung Royal Villa, a former residence of the Princess Mother, now a museum highlighting her life’s work. Local hill tribes, including the Akha and Lahu, share their traditions and crafts, offering cultural insight.
