In a major initiative to attract the growing market of free and independent travellers (FIT) from China, Digilink Thailand has introduced “Wei Tai Guo,” an innovative tourism platform. Backed by a substantial investment of THB 500 million and strategic collaborations with WeChat Pay, the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP), and other prominent industry players, the platform aims to reshape the travel experience for Chinese tourists.
The official launch, held by Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Sermsak Pongpanich, on behalf of the Prime Minister, featured a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing. Key figures at the event included Kulit Sombatsiri, Chairman of OSMEP, and Jerry Jia Liu from WeChat Pay. Digilink Thailand Co., Ltd. spearheaded the platform, with the goal of establishing ‘Wei Tai Guo’ as an essential tool for every Chinese traveller within a year.
‘Wei Tai Guo,’ meaning “Hello, Thailand” in Chinese, is tailored to meet the needs of FIT travellers, who make up 80.6% of high-income Chinese tourists seeking independent travel experiences. The platform provides an extensive guide to Thailand, offering information on restaurants, hotels, tour packages, and souvenirs across 66 major cities and destinations. It also integrates WeChat Pay for streamlined payments.
With an ambitious target to attract 200 million members and achieve 100 million active users monthly, ‘Wei Tai Guo’ will offer crucial travel services, including SIM card purchases, airport bookings, fine dining reservations, Thai and school uniform rentals, health programmes, and show ticket bookings. The platform’s content is presented in Chinese for improved accessibility.
